HOW IT WORKS
How High Pressure Drain Jetting Works Inside the Pipe
A jetter pumps water at high pressure through a reinforced hose to a nozzle at its tip. The nozzle is fed into the drain through an access point, and the water does the hard work.
- Rear-facing jets fire water backwards out of the nozzle. That thrust pulls the hose forward along the pipe and scours the walls as it goes, sweeping loosened material back behind it.
- Forward-facing jets, found on some nozzles, break into a blockage ahead of the hose so it can push through.
- Different nozzles suit different jobs. Some are designed to cut through roots, others to strip grease from pipe walls or flush out heavy silt and sand.
Because the hose is propelled by its own jets, it can work through bends and junctions that are awkward to reach with hand tools.
Pressure and flow work together. Pressure gives the jets their cutting and scouring force, while the volume of water carries the loosened debris along and out of the pipe.
JETTING VS ELECTRIC EELS
Why Drain Jetting in Bendigo Often Outperforms an Electric Eel
An electric eel, or drain snake, spins a steel cable with a cutting head through the pipe. It is a handy tool, but it tends to bore a hole roughly the size of the cutter, leaving much of the blockage stuck to the pipe walls.
For many common blockages, jetting has clear advantages:
- It cleans the full diameter of the pipe rather than a narrow path through the middle.
- Grease, sludge and silt are flushed out of the line instead of being stirred around.
- Roots are cut back and washed away, not just pierced.
- There is no rotating steel cable knocking against old joints.
Jetting is not the answer to every drain problem, which is why we assess the line before choosing an approach.
SEWER AND STORMWATER
Jetting for Sewer and Stormwater Lines of Most Pipe Materials
Jetting can be used on household sewer lines, stormwater pipes, driveway and strip drains, pits and longer runs on commercial and rural sites. It suits most common pipe materials, including PVC, earthenware and concrete.
It is a practical option for lines that are hard to reach any other way, such as long runs across rural properties or pipes buried under concrete driveways and house slabs.
Where a pipe is old, cracked or may be partly collapsed, we check it with a camera first. A CCTV drain inspection shows whether the line can safely take jetting and lets us adjust the approach so a fragile pipe is not made worse. It also means we know exactly what we are dealing with before the water goes in.
ON SITE
What to Expect on a Drain Jetting Job
A jetting job starts with working out where the problem is and where the line can be reached. We look at which fixtures or pits are affected, find the nearest suitable access point and decide which nozzle suits the job.
The hose is fed in and worked steadily along the pipe, often in several passes, until the line is clean and water runs through it freely. On longer or heavily fouled runs, the nozzle may be changed partway through to suit what we find. Afterwards, we run water through the system to confirm it is flowing properly, and if anything about the pipe concerns us, we will tell you.
For commercial clients, we are happy to talk through timing so the work fits around trading hours where practical.
COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL
Commercial and Industrial High Pressure Drain Jetting in Bendigo
Jetting is not just for homes. It is just as useful for businesses with larger, busier drainage systems, including:
- Grease-heavy lines from restaurants, cafes, clubs and food manufacturers
