In many cases, no. High pressure jetting clears most blockages from existing access points, and a CCTV inspection combined with pipe locating shows exactly where any damage is. If a repair is needed, digging can be limited to the problem section rather than guesswork.

Jetting is a safe and effective cleaning method for most sewer and stormwater pipes. Where a pipe is old, cracked or partly collapsed, we may recommend a CCTV inspection first so the right approach is used. Damage that already exists in a pipe can become apparent during cleaning, and we will explain anything we find before going further.

Sewer blockages usually show up inside: toilets gurgling or rising, sinks and showers draining slowly, or the overflow gully outside spilling. Stormwater blockages show up outside: overflowing gutters and downpipes, pooling water, or pits and grates that will not drain after rain. If you are not sure, we will diagnose it on site.
